This type of mill, called an open mixing mill, operates intermittently to process plastic materials. The device is built from two horizontal rollers that can be set at different spacing. Through successive mixing cycles, both physical blending and chemical chain scission occur, which allows all ingredients to be evenly distributed throughout the rubber.
